If you are selling on the Internet or plan to, Google has a free tool called Google Trends.
If you are using it, good. If not, you need to start. The tool will give you many interesting insights into the keywords you are interested in.
For instance, if you type in stun gun, you can see the top states searching for stun guns. You can even pick a state, and it will show you the cities in that state where people are searching for stun guns.
It also shows you the top keyword searches that contain the keyword you searched for (stun gun). There may be some in the list you haven’t thought of that you can use to optimize a web page.
It will also show you the rising searches; keyword searches that are rising in use.
It will also show seasonality. If you type in pool alarms, it shows on a graph when people have searched for pool alarms over the year. You can see the searches are greatest in April, May, June, and July, starting to taper off at the end of July. There is also a peak in December when people ensure their pools are safe for the winter.
It also shows you the top states where the searches are coming from. Florida is top, followed by Tennessee, California, New York, and Texas.
This information lets you know when and where to promote or advertise pool alarms. This includes direct mail pieces or other local advertising.
Remember other states. People have pools and children in Alabama, Virginia, and Ohio. Less competition, the better the chance someone will buy from you.
